MARIE ANN THORNTON (nee ROGERS), born feet first into this world, the 5th born of 13 children of Veronica Robinson, was discovered to have received her angel wings on June 6,2014. She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She furthered her education in the field of geriatric care and earned CNAIGNA certification. Working with the sick and elderly was her passion, which she did for many years. Always a hard worker, afterwards she held a variety of jobs with various companies among them being Giant Foods, Red Roof Inn Hotel, and H & S Bakery. MARIE, fondly called RIA, was one of a kind. She was feisty and outspoken, she always spoke her mind. She enjoyed singing, different types of music, dancing, shopping, being pampered and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She also cherished the time she spent with her extended family-the professionals and participants of the Adult Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) at the John's Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Her PRP family accepted and supported her unconditionally. An advocate and active participant of the PRP, she participated in walk-a-thons and other activities to raise money for mental health research; she received many awards for her service and received many certificates for completing wellness courses. She took pride in her participation and work with the PRP. MARIE was a woman of faith. She truly had a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior and always said, "God loves me for who I am." She loved the Lord's Prayer, which she learned as a child from her grandmother Sarah Rogers. She always expressed her love for her grandmother. Her grandmother preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband, John Thornton and her aunt, Mary Mitchell. We thank and praise GOD for the life of our beloved, MARIE ANN THORNTON. She leaves to cherish her memory: her children: Maria Rogers, John Thornton, Tameka Thornton-Johnson (Steven), Yom a Howard, and Charles Howard; 14 grandchildren: Tierra, John, Jr., Charika, Deontay, Donteasia, Shania, Deona, Donte, Tyneisha, Aquiyah, Donyae, Kamiyah, Kamilie, and Jabriyah; 2 great-grandchildren: Ciniyah and Mahlaan; her mother, 12 siblings, Veronica Webb (Alvin), George and Robert Rogers, Bernadette Vaughn (Cornell), Sarah Rogers, William Robinson, Ella Partlow (Ralvin), Maxine Duffy (Gerald), Dorothy Slaughter, Mahalia Washington (Carl), Frank Robinson (Antoinette), and Charlene Harvey; 22 nephews and 12 nieces; 1 uncle, John Rogers; like a son-in law, Donte Boone and like a brother-in-law Joseph Gupton, friend and mentor, Mary Jo and the PRP Family, and a host of other relatives, friends, and associates.
