MARJORIE LEE LEWIS was born on September 7, 1930 to the late Louise and Tom Gillis. She went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Marjorie, who was affectionately called "Margie," was born and educated in Virgilina, Virginia. Margie came to Baltimore, Maryland in 1949 with her oldest daughter. She met and married the late Sandy Lewis and from this union came three children. She began doing domestic work immediately and then started working at USF&G in 1963. In 1973, she also took a part-time position with the City of Baltimore. After working three jobs, she retired completely in 1995. Marjorie had accepted Christ as her personal Savior before leaving Virgilina, Virginia. She began attending Salem Baptist Church, which was changed to Salem Thessalonian Baptist Church, where Pastor O. C. Hoggs presided. Later joining New Mount Zion Baptist Church, she then followed Pastor Joseph Lee Davis to New Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, where she held the position of Church Mother. She loved being a mother to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and to their friends, who all called her Mama. Good cooking and a great time was enjoyed by all when she was in the kitchen cooking. Margie loved laying in bed eating ice cream watching her soaps and favorite television shows. She looked forward to interacting with other people during her daily outings. She always had a positive and uplifting word for everyone she met and a few saying she used often: "I'm sticking together; you got more mouth then carter got liver fills; first one way and then another; don't fee in my face and tell me it's rain; root little fig, die old hog; I have a Head Doctor Who's in charge; your mouth ain't no prayer book, and your butt ain't no Bible; ain't nothing jumping but the peas in the pot and they wouldn't be jumping if the water wasn't hot; a mouth full of gimme and a handful of much oblige." She leaves to mourn: her children, Mary Foster, Sandy Lewis, Gloria Griffin, Lola Lewis and Rose Davis, her daughter-in-Christ; one sister, Georgianna Yancy; her grandchildren, Robert Barnett, Martrice Griffin, Delmar Tracy, Jason Ross, Delvar Tracy and Delnar Brown; great-granddaughter, Delmaria Tracy, who assisted in her care; and a host of other great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
