Obituary

Marsha Humphrey, born June 3, 1948 to the late O'Neil & Frances Young departed this earthly life on Thursday, February 14, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Marsha attended the Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Edmondson High School. She continued her studies in Early Childhood Education, receiving several certifications through both the Baltimore City and State of Maryland Department of Education. In 1967 Marsha married her first love, Nedrick L. Humphrey. From this union three children were born. Marsha was extremely passionate about teaching and rearing toddlers and young children. For many years she worked at Woodlawn Day Nursery and Mark of Excellence Learning Center. Eventually she opened a daycare center in her home, known as "The little Ducklms." Miss Marsha as she was lovingly called by the little ones, including her own grandchildren was an exceptionally gifted teacher. Several of her students inadvertently bypassed kindergarten beginning their educational journey in public school in the 1st grade. Marsha was warm, compassionate, down-to-earth, & easy to talk with about anything that was botheringyou. As a continuation of her dedication to teach, Marsha served as an awesome, motivational Girl Scout Troupe Leader & Mentor for many years, often holding troupe meetings in her home. In fact, Marsha's home was where many of the children in the community actually grew up. It was at Miss rti Marsha's where one could find a hot meal, a helping hand & a happy hearth upon which to rest & release the weight of the cares they carried. Respected by many as a Pillar in the Community, most revered her as W a "Community Mom" instead. Evidence of such a relationship was demonstrated by the many children, now adults, who continued to love her. When Marsha gave her life to Christ, she joined the St. Paul Peace and Harmony Free Will Baptist Church. She was an active member working with both the Youth Department and Vacation Bible School until she began to experience health challenges that prevented her from continuing. Though life presented many challenges for Marsha, her faith in God was ever constant. Marsha's love for her children was undeniable and her grandchildren were her heart. She made friends easily and her caring nature made her everyone's favorite...cousin, aunt and friend. Marsha leaves to cherish her memory & live her legacy her children: Nedrick Lavon, Jr. Nadine, Monique Shavon, and Michelle La'Shawn; her children's father, Nedrick L. Humphrey, Sr. Valerie; one sister, Lennore Morris; one sister-in-law, VonterDailey; eight grandchildren, Erick, Erica, Ebony, Stephanie, Jacora, Ismail, Jazmine, Nnenaya, and Nesiah; four great grandchildren, Jayden, Kamya, Asa, and four week old Carlie; five nieces, Vanessa Vereen, Lori Christian, Sandra Langdon Faulkner, and Kasey & Kelley Woods; three nephews, Vincent Vereen, Jay Morris and Harold Garrison. Also left to celebrate her life are a host of cousins, great nieces and great nephews; Girl Scout Troop #1495; friends in the 900 block of Rosedale St. and Franklintown Pi. as well as all of Miss Marsha's Little Darlings at the Little Ducklings Daycare Center.
