Martha Louise Ward, daughter of the late Andrew and Hattie Jones, was born on May 15, 1926 in Edgecomb County, North Carolina. She was one of seven children born to Andrew and Hattie and she was the last surviving sibling. Martha answered the call to eternal life on Thursday, June 4, 2015. Martha received her education in the North Carolina Public School System. She married Luther Ward (deceased) in 1940 and they moved to Baltimore in 1941. Out of this union, they had three children, Gladys (deceased), James and William. Martha worked at Stella Maris Nursing Home for many years until she retired. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age in North Carolina. In Baltimore, she joined and was a faithful member of First Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Martha was an excellent cook and was a dedi- cated member of the Church Kitchen Committee until she became ill several years ago. Martha loved people and liked to socialize withfamily andfriends. She received great joy in cooking for her family and friends. She was known for her sweet potato pies and North Carolina minced barbeque. She will be sincerely missed by everyone, especially her sons who were very close to their mother and provided loving and special care to her during the last few years of her life. She leaves to celebrate her memory: two sons, James (Bessie) and William (Margaret); three grandchildren, Darnell, Tracey and LaVonda; five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
