Obituary

Martin Jerome Whitney affectionately known as Sammy was born
on July 5, 1946 to the late Mary Jane and Phillip C. Whitney, Sr. in
Baltimore, Maryland. After a brief illness, on Thursday, February 23,
2017, GOD stretched forth HIS hands and welcomed him home!

Sammy received his education in the Baltimore City Public School
System. He was employed by Koppers for numerous years until they
closed. He then worked collecting scrap metal until his death.

Sammy was a member of Wayman Memorial A. M. E. Church under the
late Rev. Noah Melvin.

On June 21, 2013, he married the love of his life, Lucender Leggett
Whitney, who remained by his side until his earthly mission was
complete.

He was well known for enjoyingJamily gatherings and spending time
with his grandchildren. He also loved spending time at the horse stable
hanging out and just being with the guys. He enjoyed the companionship
that he had with his precious dog "Dutchess", whom he treated like a
person. He was also known for his suave dressing, nice cars and fancy
lifestyle.

He was preceded in death by five of his sisters, Helen, Frances, Natalie,
Marcella and Jackie; and two of his brothers, Phillip Jr. and Marvin.

Those who Sammy leaves to cherish his memory are: his loving wife,
Lucender "Cindy" Leggett Whitney; daughter, Hope; stepson, Montreal
Manokey Sr., daughter-in-law, Nicole; Mother-in-law, Daisy Cole, sister,
Maxine "Freda"; brother, Sharon; brother-in-law, Lamonya ;
grandchildren, Montreal Jr., Tyrone, Richard, Tobias, Keenan, Jamal,
Tashay, Chyna; great grandchildren; Lakia, Johrinay, Lohgan, NiJohn,
Shamar Jr., Andreya, Adalyn; godson, Vance and a host of nieces and
nephews and other relatives, family and friends.
