Obituary

MARVIN LOUIS HOFFMAN (affectionately known as Donut), son of the late Alice Gordon and Louis Hoffman, was born on January 20, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was reared by the late Arthur Gordon. They shared a special relationship. God called Marvin home to rest because he did not want him to suffer any longer. He departed this life on January 16, 2014. Marvin was educated in Baltimore City schools and practiced many trades throughout the years. For several years, he worked for Watkins Security, C&P Phone Company and Mack Caruso Construction Company. He was last employed at Diamond Cab. Marvin met Vanessa Butcher in 1978. They were married in 1993 and have been faithfully committed to one another. Together they have seven children and they were all present and faithful through Marvin's transition, showing love, support and compassion. Marvin was influenced with a spiritual foundation. He had a big heart, always willing to help someone, or lend his time to someone in need. He was a faithful member of "Set the Captives Free Outreach Center". His ministry in song started with Larry Goodwin and the Divine Shepherd's and ended with About My Father's Business. He loved to sing and play the guitar. He started his singing career in secular music which eventually lead to gospel music. His passion was to sing and heal through song. Marvin was a well-known and respected gospel singer. His group About My Father's Business just won two prestigious awards, The DMV Christian Music Award and The Newsome Award. Most recently the group was nominated for the Prayze Factor Award. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Vanessa Hoffman; one brother, Gerald Gordon; two daughters, Latoryea and Rachel; five sons, Maurice, Marvin [r., Rudolph, Damon and Mark; two daughters-in-law, Tonnia and Nicola; son-in-law, Larry; and thirteen grandchildren. Marvin leaves to mourn many friends, nieces and nephews; two special brothers in Christ, Greg and Hoyt; and a special friend of many years, Myron Cooper. Viewing Joseph H.
