IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Carter
Dixon
September 8, 1961 – December 31, 2018
Mary Elizabeth Carter Dixon, daughter of Inez V. Hawks (Butchie) and Joe
Louis Carter, was born September 8, 1961, in Baltimore, Maryland. On
December 31, 2018, Marymade her earthly transition to eternal . rest with
the Lord.
Mary had several endearing nicknames, Lil Mary, My Mary, Sue Ellen, and
Mother Mary. She received her formal education through the Baltimore City
Public School System and graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational Technical
High School in 1979.
Mary knew and loved the Lord. She was baptized at an early age and often
attended church with her mother and son.
Mary's career spanned 29 years with the Social Security Administration in
Baltimore, MD. God blessed Mary when He placed her in a position that He
knew would make her content and happy for the duration of her career. She
was a dedicated, committed, and reliable employee. Mary received numerous
awards for her work and dedication. Facing some health challenges, Mary
eased into retirement on November 12, 2010.
'" God blessed Mary and Eddie Howard (Big Eddie), with one loving son,
Edward Lee (Lil Eddie). However, as a result of that relationship, Mary was
blessed with a bonus family; a daughter, Sherifa, two grandchildren, Jalen Frazier
and Tuesday Dates, and four great-grandchildren, Jakira Frazier, Jakai Frazier,
Ni-Jae Frazier, and Logan Frazier. She helped in raising her grand and
great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew Mary knew what joy her bonus
family brought her.
From birth, we knew that Mary was going to be special. She was a preemie,
so tiny and delicate, and thus given the nickname 'Little Mary'. That name over
time was shortened to 'Lil Mary'. Lil Mary showed us where "real sugar"
came from and the reason God gave us a thumb. She would rock back and forward,
suck that thumb and roll those eyes. Mary's mother, Butchie, understood that while
Lil Mary was small and delicate, she could hold her own because she was so
much like her growing up, 'right all the time'. Butchie and her girls were the
dynamic trio.
Mary and Lil Eddie were like two peas in a pod. If you saw one, the other wasn't
farbehind, and they always looked out for each other. Mary often doted on her
son's many talents-always present, supportive and loud. Whether it was his
marching band performances, fashion shows or talent shows, Mary was the
loudest person in the audience screaming for her Eddie.
Lil Mary and her sister, Renae (Nae Nae) were inseparable. Mary was the first
born, but Nae was the oldest. Nae made sure Mary was dressed to the 'nine'
whether it was for a special occasion or just a trip to the beach. Lil Mary
sought and delighted in getting approval from Nae, always wanting to make
her proud.
In her neighborhood, she was affectionately known as 'Mother Mary of Robb
Street'. She looked out for her neighbors; especially the children, fusing at
them like they were hers. Many say Mary took over where her grandmother,
Inez Woods, left off, serving as the block police. You could always find her
relaxing on her front porch on her phone or tablet playing solitaire.
Left to cherish special memories of Mary are her son
