Obituary

Mary Geathers Matthews the beloved daughter of the late Abe "Handy"
Geathers and the late Rachel "Frances" Holmes Geathers Allison was born in
Georgetown, South Carolina on July 18,194l. Mary's departure from this life
on March 17, 2017 at 10:22 a.m. with her family by her side was only to
embark upon a new beginning with our Lord and Savior.

Mary received her education in Georgetown, South Carolina Public Schools.
She then relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where she met and married the late
Raymond E. Matthews; out of that union there were two daughters born
Monica and Brenda. Her girls were her pride and joy; she added another
addition to her love circle, her youngest daughter Deborah. There was a special
bond and a unconditional love the four of them shared, Mary loved her girls
very much!!

For over 20 years Mary worked for the Maryland Cup Company in Baltimore
to help support her growing family. She never learned to drive, so that made
the commute to work more challenging but she always got there and never
complained. Mary had an abundance of love for babies and children; after her
retirement from Maryland Cup she decided to devote her time providing
daycare services to many little ones.

To know Mary was to love her; she was very fashionable even at age 75 she
still had that fashion sense of humor. "Red" was her favorite color just about
everything had to be red. She was loving, free hearted, determined, indepen-
dent and strong. She was loved by many people and touched them in many
ways. Mary loved to join her family in South Carolina once a year for the
family reunion. As time went on Mary found Christ at Fire Filled for Gospel
Glorious Church and later was elevated to be the "mother" of the church. She
loved to attend church, even on her sickest days she never wanted to miss a
day.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her daughters, Monica Matthews,
Mrs. Brenda Mason (David Sr.), Deborah Buie (preceded her in death); four
grandchildren, Tiffany Mayo-Roscoe (Jernell), Bryon R. Matthews (preceded
her in death) (Daeemah), David E. Mason Jr., Shanice "Jada" Fabre; two
great-granddaughters, "Mary's babies". Niveah and Nevaeh Matthews; one
sister, Rebecca G. Linen (Samuel); four brothers, Elijah Holmes (Elnora),
Jerome Geathers (Carnelia), Jimmie Geathers (Rosa Marie) and Allen
"June"Allison. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Lincoln Geathers
(Naomi), Emily G. Wilson (Charles), Martha G. Dorsey (Bernard), Ladrus
Geathers (both living pt Pearl Cuttino and 2nd Barbara Jean Geathers) and
Jennifer "Geneva" Geathers. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A special
cousin, Magdalene Cox; a close and devoted friend, Queenie Marshall.
