Mary Louise
Nelson
December 5, 1940 – January 12, 2022
Mary Louise Nelson was born on December 5, 1940, in the city of Baltimore; Maryland. She was the oldest
daughter of four born to the late Jessie Bell and William Henry Hough Sr. and was preceded in death by her two brothers, Sylvester
Hough, and William Henry Hough Junior.
She was called from labor to eternal reward on January 12, 2022.
Mary professed her faith in Jesus Christ at a young age and joined Second Baptist Church where she became a member of the
youth choir.
She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School, June of 1957, where she had a deep desire to study nursing. She continued
her education at Providence Hospital Nursing Program where she received her certification as a registered nurse and worked in
that field for over forty-five (45) years. Mary also worked with the Baltimore City Health Department where she held the position
of a community health nurse. As a breast cancer survivor, Mary worked at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center where she was
a strong advocate for women's preventive health care. After retirement, she continued to work as a home health care provider at
Roland Park Place Metropolitan Senior Living.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roosevelt Thomas Nelson Sr. They met, married and in their blessed union
raised six children.
Mary was a member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. She volunteered at New Shiloh Baptist Church with
the King's Daughters Ministry, where she loved praying with and feeding the homeless. She supported the Place of Grace Ministry
for over ten years.
This servant of God, Mary Louise Nelson, beloved matriarch, and leader, who was "steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in
the work of the Lord." (I Corinthians 15:58)
In Mary's leisure she enjoyed quiet time reading the bible, special times with her loving sister Vivian, cooking and taking shopping
trips to the dollar store, going to the casinos where she was quite often a winner, an avid watcher of soap operas and westerns, and
loved, loved, loved spending time with her family.
Mary loved her children. She talked constantly about her grandchildren and was very proud of all their many accomplishments.
She prayed for and encouraged them to excel in all their endeavors.
She leaves to remember her legacy: her children, Deborah Butler (Aaron), Anthony McAfee (Desiree), Jeanette Clash (Victor),
Roosevelt Nelson Ir. (Lisa), Kathern Wheeler (Larry) and Cynthia Nelson; two sisters, Vivian Kesler and Vada McAfee; a special
cousin, Luean; three sisters-in-law, Caroline (Robert), Edna (William) and Minnie (Charles); twelve grandchildren, Kevin (preceded
in death), Jakiba, Terrell, Jonathan) Earl Jr., Quianna, (Corey) Antonio, (Emily) Broderick, Andre, Alicia, Dennis, (Cierra)
LaShaviar, Bucola and Avonnia; eighteen great-grandchildren, Keion, Kayla, Larry, Akiylah, Damon, Alyssa, Nehemiah, Ja'Ziyah,
Earl Ill, Ziya, Mckayla, Metthias, Corey, Troy, Moses, Maddison, A'laya and Alaya; two great-great-grandchildren, Kah-Loni and
Amira; two godchildren, Amy and Nakea; a host of nieces, nephews and others that loved her as mom, grandma and auntie; and
very close friends, Doris, Bonnie, Brenda, Janice, Shirley, Marie and Joyce; her adorable companion and beloved feline, Pearl
