Mary Odell Rather , was born on October 19, 1934, to the late William
C. and Mattie M. Leak, in Edgecomb County, North Carolina. After a
lengthy illness, she passed this life on Monday, October 23,2017, at the
Stella Maris Hospice Facility. She was preceded in death by her sibling
Elbert Leak, one son, Larry Darnell Leak and one daughter Linda
Darlene Parker.

Mary joined Providence Inspirational Baptist Church on March 11,
1984. She was a member of the Pastor's Aide Ministry, the P. M. Stewart
Service Club and the Senior Choir. After her education in the Baltimore
City School System, she went to work for City Hospital currently known
as Bayview Hospital, where she met and married Douglas J. Rather.
Although their marriage ended in divorce, they remained very good
friends.

Mary was a loving, friendly person who made friends wherever she went
and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, one brother, William Leak; one
sister, Florence Howell; one son, Anthony Leak; one daughter, Diane
Rose ( Wellington) ; three grandchildren, Toni, Sheena, Brandon and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
