Obituary

Mary Smith, daughter of the late Oliver and Lessie Slaughter, was born on May
7, 1935. Born the third youngest of six children; She departed her
earthly life to take her place in Heaven at the age of 83.

Mary was educated through the Baltimore City Public School
System where she would later become employed as an educator
for thirty-three years. After many years of service, she retired
from the Baltimore City Public School System in 1994.

"Gran" as she was affectionately known had a great love for her
family and close friends. After retirement she devoted her time to
taking care of her grandchildren. She loved watching the Ravens
play football, along with eating a hunny bun and drinking an ice-
cold Pepsi. Gran was also known for her no-nonsense personality.
She especially enjoyed talking on the phone with her sister
(Shirley West- deceased) and spending time with her dear friend
the late Ms. Sherry.

Gran was known as "the life of the party"; even if it was simply a
small family gathering. Often you could catch gran singing or
dancing to her favorite tunes. Gran gave her life to Christ at an
early age and had a strong Christian walk and was full of Agape
love! Whenever asked, she was never afraid to tell you about her
love for Christ. One of gran's favorite sayings was "Jesus will fix
it" .

As her health begin to decline gran continued to keep her spiritual
faith. She would sing some her favorite church hymns, when her
family and friends would visit. She spent her last years at Genesis
Homewood Center where she was surrounded by her family every
chance they had.
