Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Wallace, born Mary Elizabeth Light-
ner, entered this earth in Chester, South Carolina on March
28, 1925 to the late Eunice Lightner and John Bell. She had
one sister, Leeola Lightner and three brothers, Woodrow
Lightner, John McCormick, and Larry Lightner who all
preceded her in death. God decided that Mary's work on
earth was done, and with her children surrounding her and
holding her hand, God called her home on February 4,2016
at the blessed age of 90.
Mary was educated in the Chester County Public School
System. She met an married Dewey Wallace, after moving to
Baltimore, Maryland. From this union, five children were
born, Inez Wallace, Lue Pearl Wallace, Lecolia Miller, Jerry
Wallace and James Calvin Wallace who also preceded her
in death. Mary and Dewey remained married over 52 years
until his death in June of 1998.
Mary was a wife and homemaker, devoted to taking care
of her family. She loved to travel and cook. Mary had a
strong love for Christ and was a member of Christ Temple
Church were she attended with her entire family every Sun-
day. There she was a member of the usher board. At home,
she was affectionately known as "Nana" and she cooked
wonderful meals, including her homemade sweet potato pies,
which were always in popular demand.
Throughout the years Nana was known for being the
matriarch of her family. She raised not only her children but
-helped in rearing her grandchild and great grandchildren.
Mary was known for selling some of the best frozen cups
and candied apples in her community which she did for over
30 years. Children and adults would come by car and foot
just to have one of "Ms. Mary's Frozen Cups". Memorial Service Joseph H. Brown Jr. Funeral Home
