Mary A. Ward, daughter of the late Albert and Martha Ward, was born March 26, 1916 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on Sunday, August 31, 2008. Ms. Ward exemplified the true meaning of serving God. As a devoted member of St. Veronica's Catholic Church she received many awards for teaching Sunday School and volunteering in the community. Her church was always at the forefront of her life. Big Mary, as she was known by family, lived a life filled with compassion, honesty, and love. Living independently into her late eighties, Big Mary was always just a phone call away. In fact, her phone number had remained the same for over twenty years. She was always available in your time of need. Outliving her twelve brothers and sisters, she became the only connection to our family's past. With great humility Big Mary instilled strong morals and values in all of us. Although, never married nor giving birth to children of her own, she manage to raise three generations of women and touched the hearts of many. Setting aside aspirations of becoming a nun, she decided to put family first. She leaves to cherish her memory; two devoted great-nieces, Rene Rodgers and Nekesisha Suarez; nephews, Christopher Armwood and Curtis AJohnsonl and many more nieces and nephews.
