Obituary

Mary Ann, daughter of the late Mary and Roosevelt Hawkins Sr., was born on December 20, 1946 in Florence, South Carolina. After a lengthy illness, she departed this world on October 14, 2016. She fought her illness to the bitter end.

Mary Ann was a very strong-willed person, always set on making things better. Although she attended high school, she, like many children of her generation, stopped to care for her six sisters and brothers, while her parents worked. Her love for her siblings and her ease in nurturing them grew to be her passion as well as one of her many strengths. She loved to read novels, magazines and books. As a mother of five, Mary Ann provided her children love, encouragement, and the tools to succeed. Her love for people and her gift for caring, however, did not stop with her family as Mary Ann would stop and talk to anyone, no matter where she was. She had the ability, the "gift," to make people feel special, resulting in numerous friendships. She proved to be a natural in her longstanding jobs at JB Bar on Harford Rd, Post #1043, Quality Inn Hotel and Tequila Sunset . She later recruited her two sisters Mable and Jenny to be a part of the team at Tequila Sunset. Her sparkling personality, complemented by her jazzy attire, will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Roosevelt Hawkins, Jr. and followed in death by a sister, Mable Rose.

To cherish her memories, Mary Ann leaves behind the father of her children, Ray Williams Jr.; five children, Angela (Brad) Williams, Ray (Gwen) Williams III, Trina (Stevie) Thomas, Tammi Williams, and Nina (Seth) Williams; 12 grandchildren, Tion, Donald, Jr., Rayshawn, Rayshell, Raynell, Stevie Jr., Dorien, Tyjhai, Steven, Dion, Katrina, and Stephon; and 9 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind four living siblings, Alfonzo (Florence) Hawkins Sr., Woodrow Hawkins, Virginia "Jenny" Hawkins, Kennedy Hawkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
