Matthew Cooper, nickname "Mackey" departed life on December 12, 2016 after a brief illness at the age of 80 years old.
Matthew , son of the late John Wesley Cooper and Annie Calhoun Cooper was born on March 1, 1936 in Kingstree, S ' C. He was the second oldest of eight children.
He received his education in Kingstree, sc. After moving to Baltimore City, Matthew met and married his first wife, Ruth, from this union was born three children, Aaron, Lavina , and Cheryl . Matthew was "Working Man" as his sister Betty would declare. He was a full time employee at Danko Arlington, from where he retired after 45 years of service. He also was a part-time taxi driver, and later after he stopped driving a cab, becam e a "Courtesy Driver", first at Super Pride Market, where he met Naomi, the love of his life. They later married in 1988. Matthew was a great st e p-dad to her children; Rickey, Ronald, Janice, and George. They called him "Pop Pop". He was also known as "Cooper" where he worked full time as a Courtesy Driver, for the Food King Market in the Northwest Shopping Center on Wabash Ave.
Matthew loved the New York Yankees. He also loved to dance and play his music b y the Temptations and the Four Tops. He made numerous f riends wherever he went and he will be sincerely missed by everyone.
He leaves to mourn: his wife of 28 years, Naomi, his step-children: ( oldest step-son Rickey, preceded him in death), Ronald, Janice, and George; grandkids, Kristina, Byron, and Treasur; his children from his previous marriage, Aaron , Lavina , and Cheryl; one brother-in-law, Sonny Jefferson ; two sisters-in-law, Florence Curtis , and Ruth Young; siblings, Betty , Clara, Gardina , and brother , Henry , (sister Marylee , and brothers , Ed , and John, preceded him in death) , and a host of other relatives and friends.
