On Tuesday, September 5, 2006, Mattie Mae Thurman gave thanks to God for her life here on Earth as she moved from her earthly tabernacle to return home to be with the Lord. Mattie Mae Thurman was born to the late Henry Hardley and Bertha Albritten in Pineapple, Alabama on June 6, 1933. She was one of five siblings, three brothers, John Henry, Robert Posey and Frank Posey, and to sisters, Eleanor Carter Mable Posey. Mattie was educated in the Alabama Public School System. In 1949, she migrated tp Pensacola, Fl. where she met and married Herger Thurman in 1951. Out of this union as born one son, Herger, Jr. and one son, Herger, Jr.and one daughter, Queen. Mattie gave her life to Christ and was baptized into Antioch Baptist Church in Pensacola , Florida. She often spoke of the goodness of the Lord and whenever you asked her how she was doing, she would say ''I'm blessed to see another day''. Mattie wa employed as a cook with The Olivet Sisters of Provident for ten years before retiring to raise her grand-daughters, Veronica, Tina, and Latonya. Her hobbies included crocheting, traveling and most of all cooking. She had a special love for banana pudding. She leave to uplift her memory: husband, Hergr Thurman, son, Herger Thurman Jr., two daughters, Queen Byas and Marilyn Hill, one son-in-law, Willy Byas, Jr., one daughter-in-law, Rose Thurman, 24 grandchildren, 50 great- grandchildren, a devoted friend, Freddie Glover, a special friend, Fannie Mae Hills, and a host of relativs and friends.
