Melvin Anthony Cartwell was born on January 5, 1939 in
Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life after a lengthy illness on
March 2, 2018. He was the oldest child of the late Viola and Earl
Cartwell.

Melvin, who was affectionately known as Bootsie, was
educated in the Baltimore City Public School system. He was
employed at the Pepsi-Cola Company and later with the City of
Baltimore Sanitation Department for thirty years.

On the city job they called him "Flash" because he liked to
count his cash. Bootsie loved playing his munbers and going to
Atlantic City. Even in his last days he was still asking for a good
number. He loved hanging out on Pennsylvania Avenue and the
Clubhouse with his friends.

Melvin was preceded III death by his sisters, Rosalind,
Pamela, Dorthy; Frances and Brenda; and his brothers, David and
Kurt.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Sharronn
Cartwell; his stepchildren, Geneene and Sean Georgie; three grand-
daughters, Courtney, Lashay , and DeAra; a great-grandson,
Cortland Jackson, one grandson-in-law, Lamont Jackson; three
sisters, Saundra, Vivian, and Shirley, and a host of nieces, nephews
and friends.
