Obituary

Melvin V. Moore, son of the late Essie Mae Moore and Melvin Vincent Sr., was born on August 3, 1949. Melvin departed this life on July 13,2017 after a lengthy illness.

He received his education in the Baltimore City Public Schools Systems. He attended Douglas High School and graduated from Job Corp. As a teen his first job was as a caddy at the Forrest Park Golf course. Melvin moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the late 1960's after completing his education in Maryland. Upon moving to Philadelphia his first job was at the Serta Mattress Company.

He later began his long career as a cook working in several establish- ments. Before retiring Melvin worked as both a supervisor and cook for more than 10 years at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Melvin returned to his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland in July of, 2010.

Family and friends describe him as funny, kind, and a "sharp" dresser. Melvin was known for speaking his mind and telling it like it was. He loved to hand dance, cook and listen to his old school music, especially Diana Ross & the Supreme's. He was interested in learning about technology and took many classes at the Enoch Pratt Free Library. In constant pursuit of learning Melvin recently purchased his first smart phone, but needed more lessons (101).

Melvin leaves to cherish his memories: siblings, Janelle Dyer, Betty Grandison-EL-Moore, Linda Moore, and Donald Moore; sister-in-law, Erica Moore; brother-in-law, Michael Grandison-EL; aunt, Gwendolyn Giles; nieces, La Tonya Dyer, Tanya Grandison, Shanika Clay, and Brianna Moore; nephews, Earl Dyer, Mervin Dyer, Michael Grandison- EL Jr., DeAngleo Moore, and Donald Moore Jr.; great niece, Shakiara Dyer, Kayla Clay, Nevaeh Clay, Anyiaha Clay, Taliyah Clay; great nephews, Jaikeyeil Dyer and Taiwan Grandison-EL; cousins, Quinzell Summers, Ava Thomas, Bea Thomas, Mark Giles and Fredrick Mason and a host of cousins and friends.
