Obituary

MERCEDES MARIA GALLOWAY was born in Baltimore, Maryland on
December 14,1955 to the late Roselin Marie Dunn and
Richard John Dunn. From that union, Mercedes was
the eldest daughter.

Mercedes received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools,
and was a graduate of' Lake Clifton High School, Class of 1975.

Crowing up alongside her sidekick, and younger sister, Hazel,
they always joked about Haze] being tile 'big sister'. The two of
them loved doing everything together, including their little talent
shows, singing and pretending to be the Supremos. Mercedes favorite
past-time has always been singing. That girl loved to sing! She and
Hazel would always sing and harmonize around the house when they
were teenagers and every time Rose tried to join in, they told her 'no,
you're too little to sing with us', and then one day they let Rose start
harmon izing along with them and that became the practice throughout
the years, and at lami ly gatherings. Sometimes daddy would join in
roo! Mercedes, Hazel, and Louise would have Hops back in the day,
and they would tease Louise about being a wallflower and always tried

to make her dance, but Mercedes could not wait to dance! .

Eventually in her mid-teens, Mercedes met and fell in love with
Bobby Johnson. They married young, and from that union they
had a beautiful daughter, Letitia. Later, they would divorce, and
Mercedes focused on working hard, and taking greal care of'hcr yOllng
daughter. After gradnaiion Mercedes went on to work for tile Baltimore
City Public School System as a Teacher's Assistant, with~..

primary focus on stud ems with Special Needs. Mercedes Retired
from the Baltimore Public School System after 30 years of faithful service.

In 1977, Mercedes gave her life to the Lord and became a member
of Faith Tabernacle Church. That was when Jesus became her leading
man, and from that point on Mercedes gave God everything she had in
her; she sang on the choir, led songs, participated whole-heartedly
in street meetings, and she and her 4 year old daughter, Letitia, went
to church EIGHT nights a week, and nothing else mattered exccpt
pleasing her Savior. She would worship and praise God melodically.
It was at Faith Tabernacle that Mercedes met her new love, Benjamin
Galloway. They married and had two children, Carmen and Roderick.

Mercedes was part of a big family. Her five brothers would do
absolutely anything to protect and care for her, as would her sis-
ters. She loved Derek's lima beans he would cook for her, and Wade
and Rose would always fight for her. Ricky was her knight in shin-

ing armor. Mercedes was also a lover ofswimming. She enjoyed taking
trips with her children and grandchildren, and staying in hotels,
swimming in the pool, eating out and laughing. Mercedes always
loved her three
