Merle Spence was born on January 23, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of the late Alonzo and Catherine Spence.

Merle attended Baltimore City Public Schools.

She worked at numerous jobs, until her retirement. Once she retired, Merle was affectionately known as "Wally Merle" and she spent a lot of time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. Merle enjoyed life to the fullest and helping others.

Merle departed this life peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 1: 12 pm after a period of illness.

Merle leaves behind: her devoted partner, William Hayes Jr. of 50 years; one daughter, LaTonya Spence; five grandchildren, Latanya Spence, La Vonta Foreman, LaToya Gray, Cory Gray, and Deion Gray; one great grandson, Noah Chase (Bear); four sisters, Brenda Bernard, Carolyn Spence, Delores Tyree, and Yvonne Banks; one brother, Melvin Spence and her brother Raymond Spence who proceeded her in death. She also leaves one brother-in-law, Leroy V. Tyree and a sister-in-law, Shelia Spence, and a future son-in-law, Mark Gray. Merle also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a lot of friends. Memorial Service Joseph H.
