Obituary

Merlyn Rose, the first of three daughters, was born in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I. on March 12,1957 to the late Pastor Stanley Grant and his wife Gloria. She received her early formal education at West Indies College Preparatory School in Mandeville and Willowdene High School in Spanish Town, where she graduated with her class of 1973. Her combination of musical talent and practicality led Merlyn to earn an Associate Degree for Northern Caribbean University formerly West Indies College in Mandeville, Jamaica. then she studied piano and secretarial studies and graduated with class of 1976. She furthered her studies at Andrews University, Michigan where in 1986 she earned a Bachelors in Business Administration. Merlyn and her true childhood love and friend Gilbert Morgan, gave each other the gift of marriage, an unbreakable bond, forged in love and mutual dedication. To this union were added the blessings of three sons, G.H. Everdayle, Matthew Grant and Stanley Kristen. Merlyn was dedicated to giving her sons the value of family, by traveling to Jamaica so they could be with their extended families; the Morgans, the Blakes and the Grants. During her business career, Merlyn worked with the Vista International Hotel, Maryland National Bank and most recently, The School Of Public Health and Policy at Morgan State University. ''All who knew Merlyn loved her for her warmth of spirit, her joy of living, her kindness and her dedication to her family and her wok.'' Not only did she perform best in her environment, but she also shared her musical talents with her church family, where her piano accompaniment will be greatly missed. She was steadfastly dedicated and supportive in the lives of her mother, her sisters Carolyn and Jacquelyn, and her niece, Rhea. To have known Merlyn was to have experienced unconditional love. She loved selflessly and was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her life of faith, courage and commitment is resonant sermon which though the ages will bear witness to a love that reached others in reconciliation and hope. she taught us that love is indestructible and is only increased by being shared. Whether you were a friend from long ago or as recent as today, Merlyn's value of friendship was always caring and always loving. She was an instrument in the hands of our Great God to bring joy and happiness to all. Although the road was rough during her stuggle with illness, she taught us how to be brave and savor every moment of life. She continually received family members and close friends, whose spirits she raised during those visits. She helped us all appreciate life and accepted the invitability of death. Most importantly she was a faithful child of God who blessed her with family, sustained her in trials, rejoiced with her in good times, and will welcome her home to the earth made new.
