MERRILL LEON HOUSTON JR., son of Annie Houston and Merrill Leon Houston Sr., born on August 28, 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on June 8, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Merrill was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. In 1979, he graduated from Walbrook Senior High School. In 1980, Merrill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After an honorable discharge, he went on to further his education, graduating from Baltimore City Community College. Merrill worked as a Supervisor for Securtas for twenty years. Merrill formally known as "Brother," was a very loving, spiritual man. He was a very private, yet outgoing person and made numerous friends wherever he went. "Brother" began his singing career in 1986 where he started singing with The Starlighters. "Brother" enjoyed singing gospel music, groups like The Higher Praise, The Bells of Joy, and finally The Singing Disciples. He also liked other types of music, especially Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. His favorite football teams were the Redskins and the Steelers. He leaves to mourn: his mother, Annie Houston; father, Merrill Leon Houston Sr.; stepmother, Barbara Houston; sisters, Diana Barnes, Felicia Derr, Charmaine, Delphine, Zelma, Marilyn, Darlene and Trena; brothers, Dale, Paul, Corey and Dana; brothers-in-law, Michael Barnes and Melvin Derr; niece, Tieshia Carter; nephews, Howard Leonard, Gregory Ford and Eric and Devin Moaney; aunts, Bennie Blue and Florine Fisher; uncles, Thomas Blue and Willie James; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins.
