Obituary

Mervyn Eugene "Merv" Johnson, son of the late John Binbo and Roberta M. Johnson, was born on January 3rd, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life after a lengthy illness on the morning of Saturday, February 6th, 2021.

Mervyn was a fun-loving individual who enjoyed cooking, skating (both roller and ice), and dancing. Mervyn accepted Jesus as his personal savior at the Shiloh Christian Community Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. George W. Baynard. He later converted to the Catholic faith and was a member of the Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church until his death. While at St. Edward, Merv served on the Parish Council and in the Helping Hands Ministry. He also served as a sexton.

Mervyn was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. He was a young entrepreneur, having a large paper route well into young adulthood. He worked as a paraprofessional in the Baltimore City Public School System for several years, including working with his sister at Garrison Junior High School. He worked as a manager at Burger King. He also managed trade programs for Baltimore City and for the State of Maryland. In his later years, he ran a lawn care service. In fact, Merv could be called a "Handy Man" because of his many skills and talents.

Mervyn was married twice, both times ending in divorce.

Mervyn is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Johnson, a sister, Zenda Givens, three grandsons, a nephew/godchild and niece-in-law, Michael and Jennifer Givens, great-nephews, Robert Givens and Cayden Givens, and a host of other relatives and friends.
