Mildred D. Powell, daughter of Samuel and the late Elisie Brown , was born October 16, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on July 2, 2011 after a lengthy illness. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She was known as a hardworking woman, taking jobs at places like Gordon's Paper Box Company to make sure her family was taken care of. Mildred married the late William Powell in 1950. From this union came seven children; Eric, Gerald, Allen, Melvin, Jacqueline, Darnell and Belinda. Mildred enjoyed a full social life, frequently taking trips to places like Atlantic City and going to numerous shows and cabarets. Mildred enjoyed playing bingo and was well known for her lottery system. Mildred loved shopping, watching soap operas her stories and cheering for the Baltimore Ravens. Mildred was truly the head of her family. Taking care of one and all and making sure her childred and grandchildren had what they needed. Many times doing without for the sake of her family. She was preceded in death by' her mother, Elsie Brown, husband, William Powell; three siblings, Wiliiam Brown, Samuel Brown, Jr. and Irvin Brown; two sons, Gerald Brown and Melvin Powell; and one grandson, Cordell Powell. She leaves to mourn; father, Samuel Brown, Sr.; five children, Eric Brown, Allen Brown, Jacqueline Powell, Darnell Powell and Belinda Powell; two sisters, Elsie Code and Shirley White; two brothers, Joseph Brown and Gilbert Brown; three sisters-in-law, Katherine Austin, Mamie Brown and Millie Ann Brown; one brother-in-law charles Code; one aunt. Ida Johnson; twenty-seven grandchildren, fourty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
