Minnie Gray Ruffin, daughter of the late Elijah "Jack" and Mary Birt Best, was born September 10, 1934. Her two sons predeceased her. She received her formal education in Green County, North Carolina. In or about 1956 she relocated from North Carolina to Baltimore, Maryland. Initially employed as a domestic worker, She decided to become a Nurse's Aide. For Twenty seven27 years, she wortked at Lutheran Hospital and Liberty Hospital which is now known as the Liberty Medcial Cente. She retired in 1993. Affectionately called "Gray" she was known for her culinary skills in the kitchen. A"chicken wing" and a piece of "fish" did not stand a chance in her kitchen. if it was cooked, it was eaten. Also a side dish of cucmbers and onions was "to die for." Upon arrival in Baltimore, She joined Ivory Temple, under the Leadership of Pastor Benjamin Shell in May of 1980, She was a founding member the New Fellowingship Chritian Community Church under the Pastorant of Rev. Dr. Kevin A. Rogers. She was truely saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. She was very active in her church and served faithfully in the Missionary Ministry and the Usher Ministry, eventually serving as Vice-President. Because of her love for children, she was devoted volunteer member of the primary purpose is to enbsure the safty of children as they Go to and from school. Her passion for this organization was evidenced by her consistent level of commitment. She loved to travel and to shop. Sister Ruffin was known for her hats and would smile when her pastor would tell her "Sis Ruffin, y9ou are in that hat today." She leaves to mourn her loss, Her husband Chester Ruffin; Two Granddaughters Toiya and Leslie' five great-grand children, Treshelle, Anthony, Shanyce, Jordan, Jaizmeine; a loving and devoted sister, Milderd Rowe of Washinton D.C,whom she loved and one brother, Elijah Best Helen of Baltimore, Maryland; one daghter -in-law, Sheila Best; one brother-in-law, Earl Ruffin Barbara two sisters-in-law, Rose BestRudolph and Nadine Ruffin; Three "sista" Girlfriends Nellie Taylor, Elosi Henery and Mamie Ruffin; numerous nieces, nephew, cousin and a host of other relatives and friends
