Nannie Myrtle Downey Featherstone, daughter of the late Mary Susan and Arthur Downey, was born February 9, 1917 in Woodsdale, North Carolina. She received her education in the Person County Public School System. While still a young woman she met and married Mayor Leamon Featherstone and was blessed with four children, Cleopatra Horne, Douglas Featherstone who preceded her in death, Leamon Featherstone, Jr. and Anthony Featherstone. Nanny accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and immediately made her church home at Prospect Hill Baptist Church, in Woodsdale, North Carolina. In 1940, Nannie relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. She immediately joined Israel Baptist Church, where she was an active and devoted member. Nannie was a very hard and reliable worker. She was employed as a machine operator at several local companies. After retiring in 1979 she became a dedicted day care provider. On March 18, 2007 God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered, ''Peace Be Thine.'' It was time for Nannie to depart this earthlyl life to Eternal Life. ''I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.'' II Timothy 4:7 Nannie leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Leamon Featherstone Jr. and Anthony Featherstone; daughter, C leopatra Horne; brother, Johnny James Downey of Woodsdale, North Carolina; granddaughter, Kim L. Carlton; four great-grandchildren, Devin Wilson, Darius Wilson, Darrell Wilson and Jayson Wilson; two nieces, Ellen Cannon and Jacqueline A. Brown; three nephews, Ronald Murry, Quincy Jeffers and Reginald Jeffers, nephew, Huber Brown; niece, Jessica Hooper; and a host of other relatives and friends.
