Naomi Powell, daughter of Ola and Stingary McAllen, was born in Alabama December l1, 1930. After a lengthy illness, God lifted Naomi from the cares of this world and on to eternal rest on November 13, 2013. Naomi was raised in Baltimore and educated in the Baltimore public school system. She was a single parent who worked very hard to raise three daughters. She met Harry Powell in July of 1963. They were married in the year 1983. Naomi joined Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) in 1977 and often said, this was the best and most blessed thing she has ever done. Upon her death, she had 37 years of sobriety. Naomi worked at the Turk House for many years and was loved by her co-workers and by many people in recovery. Naomi leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Dietra Mayo, Charlene Johnson, Ila Butler; five grandchildren, Lisa and Eric Mayo, Shirl McAllen, Guy Butler (Michelle), and two grandchildren who preceded her in death, Clifford Mayo and John Hearly; 10 great grandchildren, Conti and Paris Mayo, Nicholas Burnett, Ty James, KliffMayo Allen, Daniel McAllen, Brittney Blackwell, Maaquse, Jonathan, Michael and Amber Butler; 7 great, great grandchildren, Amourai, Harris, Kamill, Erin Mayo, Zakai, Kayon Allen, Jaylin Robinson; one great, great grandchild who preceded her in death, Parris Mayo, and a host of relatives and friends. " ... and most of all, my AA family, whom I have loved from day one, Please remember you did not have to be a star to be in my show. But you all are starts in the eyes of God (smiles). No goodbyes, just I will see you later! I know in my heart you all loved me as I loved you too. But God loved me more. So I must go. (smiles) So remember, my AA family, you all put life in my living.
