A Celebration of Life
In Remembrance
of Nathan P. Phillips

Born October 6,1956, to Catherine Phillips Chase and Thomas A. Phillips Sr., Nathan was a happy handsome baby boy. Upon his arrival he became the apple of his mother's eye.

Nathan attended Baltimore City public schools. He has always had love for people which influenced him to enroll in nursing school. Nathan, later in life, found a passion for cooking and servitude while working at IHOP on York Road. There he could always be found telling infamous stories, jokes and simply enriching the experience of the local customers on a daily basis. A true jack of all trades Nate retired from the State Highway Administration in Frederick, Maryland where he thrived and exceeded expectations with his employment there for over 20 years. Thus, making his family, friends, and the community so proud.

Though he was raised in the inner city of Baltimore, Nathan found his place and his peace of mind in Frederick, Maryland where he retired. Nathan made transition when his life was forever changed by his daughter Nakia. His story even gained the recognition of the local newspaper. A single father to a miracle baby, she became his motivation and inspiration to maintain a changed lifestyle, perspective and mindset. Nathan became a proud homeowner as a resident in Frederick, Maryland. Growing up with humble beginnings and a foundation of love Nathan knew how to pour into others even when his own cup was empty.

Although loyal, Nathan was never too proud or boastful, he never sugarcoated, never played sides, and will be remembered as a stand-up man. He said what he meant, and he meant what he said! But who couldn't eventually forgive a guy with a golden smile whose heart was as big as his hands. A true gentle gianthe will always have a place in the hearts of all who knew him.

His greatest accomplishments and favorite pastimes were being a savage single parent to his girls, a loving grandparent in his senior years, riding his electric bicycle, maintaining a beautiful relationship with his mother who remained his number one supporter, confidant & favorite girl, spending quality time with his brother Craig and admiring his friend Kelly, a neighbor turned friend, who relentlessly accepted him for who he was and was not.

Unknown to most Nathan had a beautiful relationship with God and walked in the confidence within the realms that God placed him in. Being a go-to guy, Nate was never afraid of any obstacle. Finding out he had extended family and children later in life, he welcomed the challenge with open arms and took on the added responsibility with love, understanding, compassion and was honored by the chance to be a hero in their lives.

He leaves to morn his mom Cathy, his younger brother Craig, his 6 kids, Tony, Dorian, Jasmin, Nakia, Janay, and Kenny. His Aunt Gina who was raised alongside him as a sister as well as Markeya and Pebbles and a host of other family members and friends. Nathan will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We are eternally grateful for his stories and especially HIS STORY! A true tale of choices, challenges chivalry, characters, consciousness, calamity, courageousness and change. We're thankful for every chapter.
