NATHANIEL RICE, JR. (lovingly known as "Butch") was born on April 5, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Helen and Nathaniel Rice, Sr. On the morning of March 23, 2015, Nathaniel was peacefully called home to be with our Lord and Savior. Butch received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He was employed at University of Maryland Hospital in the Housekeeping Department. He was a pristine painter by trade and took great pride in his finished product which was a work of art. He retired on April 30, 2010 from the Baltimore City Public School System as a Ground Maintenance Technician. Nathaniel married Carolyn Purdie and from this union two children were born, Dawn and Anthony Rice. Butch loved his family and was always there for them. He loved music, playing the bongos in the community and travelling with the famous group, "Maze". He enjoyed bike riding, roller skating, attending social events, and crossword puzzles with his granddaughter, Bijan. Butch was a stylish dresser whose ensemble was not complete unless he topped it off with a hat. He had a great sense of humor and made numerous friends wherever he went and will be sincerely missed by all. Nathaniel is preceded in death by Mark Rice, Mary Ryne, Yolanda Rice, and Dennis Rice. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: two children, Dawn Hernandez and Anthony Rice; three grandchildren, Terrell, Carrina, Darrian; five sisters, Andrea Hall (Harold), Sandra Rice, Vanetta Haynes (Anthony), Marie Rice, Ramona Rice; two brothers, Caesar Rice (Emma), Edward Rice (Jessie); a devoted, loving, and caring companion, Alease Mays; her children, Aaron, Rodney (Tammy), Nicole; and grandchildren, Bria, Cameron and Bijan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
