Obituary

Nowell C. Cook Billy, husband of the late Margaret E. Burns Cook our beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, departed this life on December 24, 2008 after a brief illness. He was the eighth child of Ziber and Josephine Cook, born on June 4, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Carver Vocational School where he pursued tailoring. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 where he served undeer General Patton as a Staff Fergeant of the Motor Pool during World War II. While there he received a Bronze Service Star in 1944. In 1946, he was honorably discharged. As a pastime Billy learned auto mechanics. He was an avid car buff. He would take cars apart and put them back together. He loved working on casrs. Family and friends depended on him for much of their mechanical solutions. Everyone knew if Billy couldn't fix it, it was junk. He drove a school bus for Ben Keene taking children to Bates High School. He did chartered tours to Carr's Beach, Coney Island, Hershey Park and a range of other locations. He worked adt Harbinson-Walker refactory in the Grinding Department where they made cider blocks and retired from there in 1969. On many occasions he worked with his brother Elmer at Dotson's Bar-B-Que. Billy accepted Christ at an early age often attending Halls United Methodist Church and Magothy Methodist Church. On June 23, 1950 he married Margaret Estelle Burns, who was the love of his life. From this life long union they produced two lovely daughters. As a family they loved to entertain their many friends. hey traveled to several beaches and various locations up and down the east coast. He leaves to cherish his memory; two daughters, Patrica Jones and Pamela M. Carr; two stepsons, Herbert A. Mason and Robert F. Mason both who preceded him in death; granddaughter, Alanna Carr; four grandsons, Trevon Gee, Bremon Williams Sr., Brandon and Derrick Carr; great-grandson, Bremon Jr., great-granddaughter, Briana Williams; sister-in-law, Ruth Cook; two sons-in-law, Norris Jones and Allan Carr; godchild, Tannie Cornish; along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives; also four dear and devoted friends, Ed Drake, Larry Williams, Leonard Gee and Junious Kennedy.
