Obituary

On February 2, 2015, at his home in Edgewood Maryland, OTIS EDWARDS JR. heeded God's call. Born on May 25, 1952, in Jackson, North Carolina, Otis was the sixth child of six, born to the late Otis and Alease Garner Edwards. In his death, he preceded all five of his siblings Billy, Audrey, Curtis, Betty Jean, and Carolyn. Otis, "Dulum" as he was called by many, began his formal education in the Northampton County Public School System, in Jackson, North Carolina. In 1960, the family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he continued his elementary education through high school. Otis enlisted into the United States Army in 1971, whereby shortly after his medical discharge from his services, he began his livelihood career, which included: Soloist in various singing groups, Sparrows Point Still Mill worker, a long period as Car Salesman, and later he chauffeured in Bus Services throughout the Maryland and DC area. Otis loved everything about life, he was a "people person" and he participated in life like a "social butterfly"; it was said by one of his neighbors, the neighborhood dogs and little children loved him, and would often come to the door of his home vying for his affection. He loved his Phyllis, his family, singing, television westerns, sports, and his vehicles. He enjoyed hanging-out with his Nieces and Nephews, and he loved to host in his backyard family and friends gathering for his annual cook-out. He leaves to mourn, his beloved Soul-Mate and Companion for over 25 years, Phyllis; his children, (twins) Gavin & Gaynor, Otis Edwards III; his son Dun-tai Edwards, preceded him in death. He cherished his five grandchildren, and he will be greatly missed by, Ke'Ira, Daisha, Kyiah, Davontai and Jack. Left also to mourn, is his five Siblings and spouses, Billy G. Edwards & (Lea), Audrey M. Thompson & (Pete), Curtis A. Edwards & (Joan), Betty J. Petty & (J P), and Carolyn A. Edwards/ Edwards & (Joe), as well as, a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends, and Co-workers, he will be greatly missed by all. God granted Otis his wish, he often had this saying, "When my final moment comes, I want it to be at home." Viewing Joseph H.
