PAUL STANTON CARTER, affectionately known as Stanly by his fam- ily, was born June 12, 1930 to Moses and Mary Carter. He was the youngest of 14 children. Paul was educated in the Baltimore City Public School Sys- tem. He served a tour of duty in the Korean War and he kept in touch with his sweetheart at home, Gloria Ames, whom he later married. Out of this union, Paul had two daughters, Joyce Paulette Carter and Joan Linda Carter. Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and he was known to prepare extra-large meals in anticipation of some family member or friend stopping by to visit and there were -always visitors. He would take his family to visit relatives in the area throughout the year with a memorable annual visit to his Aunt Lizzie for a massive holiday dinner. He worked for over 30 years for the Social Security Administration with his job upon retirement being in the Print Shop. Paul was very active throughout his life catering weddings, and a variety of celebrations. He and his sister Evelyn Cockrell, affectionately known as Ebbie, would provide lavish displays of food, fruits and desserts for those who sought their services. He received referrals by word of mouth. Paul was an active member of a social club called the King's Men. This organization had a Cabaret each year which was usually a sold out event. Throughout the year, they had various events to include charitable activities, fundraisers and family gatherings. Paul brought his catering skills to bear while a member of this organization as well, with his displays of food, desserts and fruits. His knowledge of arranging a room to make the event inviting was known by all and this spurred referrals for catering opportunities. He was the last surviving member of the King's Men. Paul joined Psalmist Baptist Church under Reverend Junius Gray when the church was located on Parrish St. He followed the church to Marion Dr. In his early years, Paul sang on the choir at church. He attended church regularly and always had his wife Gloria by his side. In later years, when Paul's health failed, he resided at Future Care Lochearn. He was well liked there and during that time he had the opportunity to go on outings with his daughter, share holiday meals and celebrate birthdays.
