IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pauline C.
Dates
March 26, 1936 – May 10, 2019
Ma, Bub, Ms. Dates, Grandma, Mother Dates and Pauline as she was often called by her family
and friends, was born March 26,1936 to the late William Henry Dates Sr. and Mary Francis
Dates. She answered God's call into eternal rest from earth to glory on May 10, 2019 at 7:40
AM.
She received her high school education at Fredrick Douglas Senior High School. She graduated
from the Baltimore School of the Bible. She worked and managed AAMCO gas station for
twenty years, After leaving AAMCO, Pauline was employed by the Baltimore City Public School
system where she worked and later retired after 16 years of service. She was known as a hard
and dedicated teacher and member of the PTA staff. She enjoyed her job and working with her
children. She also taught sign language.
Pauline often enjoyed watching "Westerns" old and new. Something her sons picked up along
the way. She loved to cook' and she made the best potato salad. If you ask EI she would say,
"the best next to Vivian's" LOL. She made the best homemade cookies, so good that by the
time she was ready to distribute them, they were already eaten, by her family. She was also
known for her chili and corn pudding. She definitely had the gift of cooking.
We would gather together to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. One of her favorite
Christmas movies was A Christmas Carol. She couldn't wait to decorate and set up her Christ-
mas Village. She would always have a tin can of cookies just for us to take along with our gifts.
Her grandchildren would say, "grandma always gave you gifts that you didn't want but really
could use such as pajamas, socks and scarfs" LOL. But hey that was grandma!
Pauline accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was filled with the baptism of the Holy
Ghost. As a faithful member of church, she attended and joined Calvary under the leadership of
Pastor Carlos and Carolyn Green. She loved traveling with her church family. She served for
many years in different capacities, treasurer for Pastor's Aide, superintendent and teacher for
Sunday School, and let's not forget the choir. But, if Pauline loved nothing else, she loved to
pray. She participated in the women's prayer group and would often rise early in the morning to
pray collectively. Wherever she was needed she would help. She committed her life to ministry
and attributed her gifts and calling to the God she served.
Pauline loved her family. She loved her three sons Tony, Larry and Chico. She knew she could
depend on them to make sure she was always ok. You could say she never had favorites. She
had a special bond with all of her family members. "EI" was her partner, getting hair and nails
done, and shopping, Denise (Nicole) was her caregiver, she would often say, you're off, drop
what you're doing, bring my favorite food, my twin grandchild. And the grandchild that had the
pleasure of having a front row seat, Lil Tony was her buddy, they would lay in bed, laughing, and
cutting up while watching television, she looked forward to the Christmas program in July.
Pauline was a very loving and caring person. She was compassionate and charming. She was
determined and strong. Most of all her grandchildren would say, she was feisty and outspoken.
Something that we all are in this family LOU No matter what she was going through she always
kept the faith and believed God had her. Always taking advantage of the moments with family or
strangers to make sure they knew the Lord.
Even when her health would not allow her to be mobile, she fought a good fight and ran her race
to the very end. Today we celebrate her life and legacy. She was truly loved by many and will
be missed by all.
Pauline Dates was proceeded in death by her parents William Henry Dates Sr. and Mary
