Obituary

Pauline Colbert Gross of Baltimore, Maryland, was called home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2026, at the blessed age of 99.

 Born on November 15, 1926; to John and Alice Colbert in Baltimore, MD. Preceded in death by her two sisters Jean Curtis and Barbara Wilkes. Pauline lived a long, full, and faithful life marked by love, devotion, and unwavering trust in God. On January 31, 1946, she was united in holy matrimony to Richard Gross of Baltimore, Maryland. Together, they were blessed with eight children and built a strong foundation rooted in faith and family. Pauline was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy with her loving children: Dwight Gross (wife, Pauline Gross), Miriam Wood, Eric Gross (wife, Linda Gross), Paula Law, and Vincent Gross (wife, Andrea Gross); along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Gross, 3 of her children, Richard Depaul Gross, Vanessa Johnson, and Bryan Gross.

 Pauline attended Douglas Middle and High School through the ninth grade before enrolling at Saint Frances Academy, where she completed her high school education. She graduated at the remarkable age of sixteen and went on to attend Coppin State Teacher’s College, earning her teaching degree. Demonstrating a strong commitment to education, she obtained her master’s degree in education at the age of twenty two (22). Pauline served in the education profession as a teacher for 35 years. In 1980, She was appointed as a Head Teacher within Baltimore City Schools, where she helped initiate and run the Head Start Program for preschoolers. In her retirement years, her leadership abilities and attention to detail kept her active in the community; Serving on the committee of the Baltimore city council, tutoring children, and She also served as president of her neighborhood association for 10 years—a role she carried out faithfully well into her 90s. Alongside her husband, Pauline became a successful independent business owner with the Shaklee Corporation.

 She believed strongly in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, consistently taking her vitamins and staying active. Even at the age of 93, she could be seen outside sweeping leaves in front of her home. She often shared her well-known saying: “If you don’t use it, you will lose it.” Pauline loved to travel and enjoyed seeing the world with her daughter and other family members, creating cherished memories along the way.

 A faithful and devoted member of New All Saints Catholic Church, Pauline worshipped under the God-fearing guidance of Father Sterling and more recently Father Kenny. She remained steadfast in her walk with Christ throughout her life. She drew comfort from scripture and fellowship and was known for her kind spirit, gentle wisdom, and encouraging words. Her presence brought peace and reassurance to those around her. Pauline will be remembered for her gentle spirit, warm heart, unwavering faith, and the love she so freely shared. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us in body, we rejoice in God’s promise of eternal life and find comfort in knowing she now rests in His presence. As her son Eric shared, “Mom prepared herself to take this final journey alone.”

 As it is written in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Pauline’s life truly embodied these words.
