Obituary

Preston Childers, beloved son of the late Mary and
Preston Childers, Sr., was born on September 6, 1946 in Baltimore,
Maryland. On Sunday, November 1 st, 2015, the angels carried him
gently into the arms of his Savior.

Preston received his education in Baltimore City Public Schools
and graduated from Southern High School. At the young age of 19,
he joined the U.S. Armed Forces branch of the military in October
of 1965. After serving his country for several years, he was Honorably
Discharged from the army and returned to Baltimore. He
attended Baltimore City Community College, where he studied Art
as a major while working for the Baltimore Railroads as a Railroad
Brakeman. After leaving the railroads, he could usually be found in
or around the Democrat Club where he spent time with his friends
and co-workers.

Preston enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Whenever
you needed him, you could call and he would come. He was a
true "renaissance man", which was evident in his love of art, drawing,
movies and music. He enjoyed concerts, plays, and was a
humble artist. While he was not vocal about his abilities, he was a
very talented drawer and painter. Preston was a sharp dresser, and
loved clothes and shoes. He had an extensive collection of shoes and
boots, and seemed to be most comfortable in rare and exotic materials
like snakeskin and crocodile. Preston loved food, and although
he was trying to live a healthier lifestyle recently, a rare steak was
always on the list of his favorites. In his spare time, he often watched
news and sports. He was an avid reader, and stayed abreast of local
and world news by reading the newspaper. He collected National
Geographic magazines, and maps of different regions of the world.

He was open to discussion on any topic and usually had them with
his cousin and dear friend, James Taylor. Preston and his "brother
from another mother", James, were together often and took pleasure
in their discussions about news, sports and their children.

Preston leaves to cherish his loving memory: his three children,
Kevin Childers, Preston Childers, III, and Robin Childers Russell
(Davon); one grandson, Kevin Childers, Jr. and four granddaughters,
Brittany Childers, Sadaya Childers, Heavenly Childers and
Marquis Russell; four sisters, Sarah Childers Wright, Aisha Abdullah,
Pamela Childers King, and Ruby Childers Mitchell; one brother,
Nathaniel (Deroy) Childers; one special friend, Margaret
Jefferson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and
Dear Friends at the Democrat Club.
