IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Prince
Jones
December 7, 1933 – May 22, 2018
Prince
Buddy
Jones
was born on December 7, 1933 to the late
Blanche and Joseph Jones, Sr. in Beaufort County, South Carolina.
Prince was the third of four children; Joseph Jones, Jr., Melvin and
Carrie Mae; all whom preceded him in death.
Prince was educated and spent most of his young adult life in
Beaufort County and worked as a school bus driver for several
years. "Buddy" followed in his older brother Melvin's footsteps and
joined the United States Army in March 1954. He served during the
Korean War Conflict and was honorably discharged in January 1956.
After leaving the Army, Prince followed his two older brothers to
Baltimore to seek employment. He found work as at the Allied
Chemical Company in Locust Point. He then worked in housekeeping
department at the Montebello State Hospital until he retired. Prince was
briefly married and had one son and one daughter with his wife Charlene.
She also preceded him in death.
"Buddy" as he was lovingly referred to, loved baseball and could be
found watching the Orioles on television and still rooted for them even
when they were losing. Buddy was generous to a fault and loved to give
money to friends and family. In his later years he could be found on the
porch of his assisted living residence handing out dollar bills to the young
people in the neighborhood telling them to go and buy themselves a soda.
He loved to have a good time and would make others laugh with
his quick wit and sometimes, "raunchy" humor.
When his health permitted Prince would attend his home church,
the St. Joseph Freewill Baptist Church in East Baltimore. Even when
he resided in Harford County, his niece, Renna would ensure that he
would attend church on the first Sunday of the month so that he could
receive Holy Communion. When Renna would pick him for service she'd
find him clean shaven, wearing a stylish suit and tie because Mr. Buddy
liked to
"look sharp".
Prince loved to read his Sunday papers and would sing Gospel songs
(although he didn't remember all the words). During the last few years
when various health issues began to deplete his memory and his strength
Buddy was blessed to be cared for by his devoted niece Renna, his dear
friend, Marlene and health care providers, Patrice Taylor and Stacey Mack.
He leaves to mourn his passing, nieces, Sandy Thomas (Randolph), Renna
Hardy (Kenneth -deceased); cousin, Jerome Washington; sister-in-law,
Rev. Vivian Martin-Jones; nieces, Karen Jones and Alecia Jones; nephews,
Bernard Jones and Marvin Jones; devoted friend, Marlene Redd and a
host of great nieces and nephews and friends.
