Raleigh James Rucker Jr, was born March 12, 1946 in Lynchburg, Virginia to Hazel McDonald and the late Raleigh Rucker. Junior, as he was commonly known to family and friends, received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System, where he received his high school diploma from Frederick Douglass High School. At the age of 20, he became active in the United States Army. His awards and decorations include Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 device, National Defense Medal, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar (M-14) and Overseas Service Bar. Throughout his life, Junior maintained several occupations to support his family. His positions included tractor trailing driver, long term employee of Brady's Oil Company, Diamond Cab Company to name a few. His hobbies included crabbing, fishing and watching western movies. He leaves to cherish his memory wife Annie Mae (whom he called Punkie), his mother Hazel Benjamin, children Tawanda Howe (Van), Tonia Rosebrough (Warrren), Oleta Rucker, Aleta Rucker (Terence), Raleigh James Rucker (La-Nitra), Latisha Rucker, Tatanasha Rucker-Crew, Shawn Rucker (he preceded him in death), Raleigh Rucker and Ralene Rucker; siblings Deborah Young (Kenny), Clementine Brown, Renee Benjamin, Wayne Benjamin, Anthony Benjamin, Lee Diggs and Michael Montaque; 31 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; several special friends; aunt Lillie Mae and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
