IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Randolph
Porter
October 17, 1931 – November 3, 2018
On October
17, 1931,
Flossie Porter gave birth to
a
healthy
little boy and she named him Randolph. Little did she know
that Randolph would grow into a man who would inspire and
mold the lives of so many people.
Randolph grew up on a farm and learned the value of work
ethics at a young age. On July
7, 1951,
he married the love
of his life, Annie Cumbo. Randolph and Annie were blessed
with four children, and they raised their children to share t
he same work ethics that was instilled in him.
Randolph moved his family to Baltimore, Maryland in
1955,
and immediately found a home at the Israel Baptist
Church
.
He then gained employment with the Maryland
School for the Blind, and became a valued member of the
facility for more than
37
years. During his tenure at the
school he touched the lives of the students and faculty,
and established the role of surrogate father to many. To
this day, you will hear students and members of the faculty
say, "He is like a father to me."
He moved his family to Sinclair Lane in
1964,
and over the
years his children learned to share him with others as he
became "Pop" and "Granddad" to the neighborhood residents
and his children's friends.
Randolph Porter exemplified strength and dignity. He was
a peace maker
,
and did not like confusion. He was a man
who demonstrated his love for God every day of his life
by his walk and the way he treated others. He will be
missed by so many people, but his legacy will live on
for years to come.
We're not sure if Randolph Porter knew how awesome
he really was because he was a humble man
.
However,
we
do know that he knew he was loved.
Randolph Porter was often heard saying
"
I've had a
blessed life and God has been good to me. "
Thank you God for the life and legacy of Randolph Porter!
