Obituary

RAYNARD STEVEN GLADNEY, the second of three children born to the late Bernard Gladney and Rosalee Gladney, departed this life on January 11, 2013 at Sinai Hospital after a period of declining health. Ray, also affectionately called "Half," by his friends, was born on October 31, 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a product of the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Edmondson High School in 1971. Ray grew up in the family church, Mount Hebron Baptist Church and accepted Christ at an early age. In July of 1995, he married the former Lois Louise Valentine and soon joined New Antioch Baptist Church of Randallstown with his new wife. During his lifetime, Ray had a number of employment experiences. He worked in various positions for the Baltimore City Public School System, Koppers Company, Herbert Greenbaum and Associates, Inc. and Eagle Trading Post Wholesalers. Later in life, Ray became an enterprising entrepreneur and was a popular street vendor in Edmondson Village. He derived great pleasure from his frequent shopping trips to New York and Washington, D.C. to find the perfect merchandise for his customers. Ray was an out-spoken, out-going man with a heart of gold. If he could do anything for anybody, he would. He was also an excellent provider for his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Ray leaves to mourn: his wife, Lois; a devoted sister, Bernadine Steven Simmons; a brother, Leonard Lorna Gladney; a son, Troy Gladney, Sr. Angelika; a grandson, Troy Gladney, Jr.; two stepchildren, Ivy Shaheed Valentine and Michael Lana Valentine; three step-grandchildren, Jabril, Alexis and Michiah Valentine; one step-greatgrandchild, Caiden Valentine-Johnson; his mother-in-law, Marion Bush; six sisters-in-law, Joyce Brown, Maria Bush, Edwina Earl Cornish, Darlene Sylvester Grimes, Roxanne Bush and Renee Glenn Cooke; two brothers-in-law, Edward Renae Bush and Kevin Mary Bush; three aunts, Rev. Wilhelmina Charles Watts, Mamie Gladney and Naomi Hopkins of New York; and a host of nephews, great-nephews, nieces, great-nieces and cousins. Also to cherish his memory are a number of special friends, to include: Melvin Scott, Steven Moody, Larry Hines, Samuel Mackle, Rodney Kelly, Timmy and Ann, and Al.
