REBECCA J . CAPERS , daughter of the late Edward and Annie Lucille Lesane
James, was born on May 21, 1921 in Mayesville, South Carolina. She departed
this life on Friday, September 8, 2017 after a lengthy illness.

Rebecca, affectionately known as "Flossie" by her family grew up in Mayesville,
South Carolina. She was educated in Sumter County public schools and graduated
from the Mayesville Institute, where she was an exceptional player on the girls
basketball team. She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She
met and married Thomas Capers, Jr. and from this union six children were born.

The family moved to Baltimore where she became a member of Ebenezer AME
Church under the leadership of Reverend Shepard Thompson. Over the years,
she was involved with the Missionary Board, Precious Gems, the Young People's
Department and the South Carolina Ministry. She was employed at Whitehouse
& Schapiro for many years before retiring. After retirement, Rebecca remained an
active member of the community. She supported local political campaigns and
the ministry of The Word of God Church; she also volunteered at Steuart Hill
Elementary School and Bon Secours Hospital. She remained a faithful member
of Ebenezer until her passing.

Rebecca was very outgoing and a true conversationalist; she made friends
wherever she went. She loved watching the Orioles, the Ravens, roller derby,
and professional wrestling. She liked to draw, complete word and number search
puzzles and adult coloring books. She enjoyed visitors, talking on the phone,
singing and listening to gospel music. Her faith and trust was anchored in the
Lord.
