IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Booker
February 28, 1946 – May 14, 2016
Robert Thomas Booker,
was bom on
February 28, 1946 to Emestine Booker. However, she
was unable to care for her infant son, so she gave his
care and rearing to her niece-in-law, Inez Russ Booker.
She graciously accepted the responsibility and became
mother to Robert through nurturing, loving, caring and
providing for him until he was 5 years old. Robert also
cared for and loved Inez as his mother, not only as a
child, but as an adult.
Critical circumstances arose beyond Inez's
control that she could no longer care for Robert. She
transferred his care and rearing to her mother, Sadie
Russ, who loved Robert so very much. Sadie instilled
the love and principles of God into his life. She also
encouraged Robert to excel to great heights by valuing
high principles of achievement
Robert received his education in the Baltimore
City School System and graduated from Paul Laurence
Dunbar High School. At the age of 18, he decided
that he wanted to be a soldier, so he entered the
United States Army on September 22, 1964.
He faithfully served his country for three terms
and received an Honorable Discharge on September
21, 1970. Robert received several decoration medals,
badges, commendations, citations and the following
Campaign Ribbon Awards: Pacht Badge; National
Defense Service Medal; Armed Force Expeditionary
Medal; Aircraft Crewman Badge; and a Purple Heart
Medal.
After his discharge, Robert again beg-all a
son/mother relationship with Inez for a number of
years. They parted again for a while and reunited
until her demise in 2000. However, Robert
continued to live in the family home with his
beloved cousin, who became the owner.
Robert, who was fondly called "Jake," was a
person of great humility. He cared for others
despite of his own health issues, which were many.
Robert loved to laugh, watch television (especially
football), and eat good food. He loved a good pot
of lima beans with smoked meat and lots of hot
peppers, which his Aunt Delores often cooked for
him. Robert's cousin, Shirley, would cook a big
meatloaf for him. He simply loved food! (smile)
After a long period of illnesses of which he
never complained, Robert departed this life on
Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Loch Raven
Rehabilitation Veteran's Hospital where he was
loved and well taken care of by the staff, who
spoiled him a lot.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory: a
beloved cousin, Peggy Lee; one aunt, Delores Russ;
cousins, Shirley Lee, Kendrick Lee; friend, Roy
Eaddy and other friends and distant relatives.
