Robert David Gantt, Sr. was born September 9, 1936 to the late Newton and Isadora Gantt in Newton, North Carolina. On Wednesday morning, July 26, 2006 at Milford Mannor Nursing Center, Robert departed this life and went to his enternal resting place. Robert, affectionately known as Bob by most and Bobby by his wife, was educated at Booker T. Washington Junior High and Carver Vocational Senior High Schools in Baltimore, Maryland where he excelled in tailoring and shoe making. As a teenager, he worked at Robinson's Drug Store and Hilton Court Pharmacy delivering medications. He was employed at the Robert S. Greene Construction Company, Hold Tight Company, drove taxi-cab part time and later retired from Baltimore Contractors chauffeuring former Cadillac Owner, Victor Frankel. Forty-Five years ago, Robert and Vaness Gantt joined hands in marriage. This union was blessed to share five children, Michael, Andre, Bonita, Robert Jr. and Ronda Gantt. At the age of seven Bob and his four siblings joined the Mt. Hope Baptist Church with his mother, Isadora Gantt. Bob was baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend Andrew David Nance at the age of fourteen. He was a member of the Baptist Young People Union BYPU, Sunday School and the Junior Choir. Memories of Bob's candor, wit, humor and precision musical steps to his favorite artists with wife Vaness will be sorely missed. Fond memories will be cherished by: his wife, Vaness Gantt; three sons, Michael, Andre and Robert Jr.; two daughters, Bonita and Ronda Gantt; two brothers, the late Haywood wife Liz and the late Lee V. Gantt who both preceded him in death; two sisters, Annie Lee and Mabel Brown; mother-in-law, Sadie Midgett; sister-in-law, Evalina Blanding; two brothers-in-law, Stanley and William Midgett; nine grand-children, Ebony, Andre Jr., Ronisha, Chanell, Destiny, Shamier, Shaniqua, Keenen and Samone; three Great-grandchildre, Kevin, Kenya, Keyshawn and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who loved and enjoyed him.
