Obituary

ROBERT L. MACER, JR., son of the late Robert Leo Macer, Sr. and Eva Johnson Macer, was born August 16, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland. Robert was one of four children. He departed this life on March 29, 2024, at Future Care Old Court. As a young boy, Robert attended John Wesley United Methodist Church. Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age under his Aunt Myrtles directions. She did not hesitate to tell Robert that all you needed to do was to trust in the Lord, and what Robert did was to trust in the Lord.

He was educated in the Baltimore Public Schools and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School.
On February 24, 1956, Robert married the love of his life, the former Geraldine Cottrell, and from their union was born one son Orlando Macer.

Robert followed in the footsteps of his Uncle Edward Jackson in becoming a Motion Picture Operator at the Biddle Theatre where he worked diligently for 15 years. Later in life Robert pursued his dreams of becoming a Postman with the United States Post Office from 1961 until he retired in 1988.
Robert was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in November 1951. After completing basic training he saw combat duty in the Korean War from 1952 to 1953. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with (3) stars; U.N. Service Medal and the National Service Medal. Robert received an honorable discharge on January 13, 1960.

Robert loved sports especially baseball, basketball and football. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens and treasured watching their games on television. Robert enjoyed running long distance around his neighborhood and he liked watching track and field on television. Robert also liked to go fish ing and crabbing with his buddies in the neighborhood along with his cousin Jimmie Smith. He specially  loved  collecting  rare and  tropical fish  which  he displayed in aquariums in his basement.
Robert and Geraldine hosted many holiday parties at their beautiful home for staff and family.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 68 years, Geraldine Macer; his son, Orlando Macer in Duck Key, Florida; sister-in-law, Ms. Valerie Stamp er of Baltimore; special cousin, James Edward Alston who was his full time caregiver, and Jimmie Smith, special cousin (Linda); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends across multiple generations. He was preceded in death by his sister Gilda Brown and brothers Alonzo James Macer and George E. Macer.
