Obituary

Roderick "Roddy" Adrian Smith was born on April 1, 1964 at 7:07 am to William and Carolyn
Smith at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Roddy was a blessing to all and he was
affectionately called "Heartbeat" by his grandmother Ruth Garrett and she was his "Baby
Ruth" . From birth he was always an easy spirit, a gentle soul, and a joy to raise. As a toddler
through school age and beyond he was always fun loving, adventurous and somewhat of a
dare devil and a friend to all. In spite of a tragic accident at an early age at a family cookout
nothing could, would or did dampen his outlook on life, spirit, resilience and his sense of
humor. We affectionately called him our "Bionic Boy" broken bones, fractures, stitches and
all he still endured. He may have fallen down but he always got back up!

Upon his arrival his two older siblings were elated .... Bobby called him "Little Brother" and
Dee Dee called him "Her Baby" often asking when he cried "What's the matter with the
Baby?". Roddy was full of joy when Dannine came along and he was happy to finally carry
the title of "Big Brother".

Roddy attended Carver Vocational Technical High School where he majored in Commercial
Art, he was a member of the Track and Field Team, the Steering Committee and Junior
Achievement. His ambition in life was to "Live a Happy and Successful Life". In 1982, his
bundle of joy and the love of his life was born, Quiana Marie. From day one he was a great
father, proud, responsible, loving and caring. There were no limits to his love for his
daughter. No limits to his love for life, laughter, living and his family. Once you crossed
paths with him he proved to be unforgettable.

Upon graduation in 1983 he was employed with Baltimore City as a Traffic Maintenance
Employee, he later accepted a position with Allied Stripping Company which allowed him
the opportunity to travel the east coast and spend a year in Atlanta, GA. He enjoyed taking
on new adventures and meeting new people. In March of 1994 he accepted a position
a Murray's Steak as Customer Service Representive for 23 years. Roddy was offered several
management positions over the years however, he never pursued the opportunities because
it required him to relocate and he wanted to make sure the was close to home.

Roddy was a family man. He spent time with his nephews and nieces, Telly, Skylar, Clacia,
Aaron, Korner. Zo and Mitra his niece in love. He enjoyed bowling, playing basketball and
helping his nephews and nieces with homework and projects. Roddy and his niece Clacia
are the only left handed members of the family and that uniqueness made their relationship
a very special one and c-reated a very special bond. He taught her how to write print and
cursive and to hold left handed scissors.

Roddy was independent and free spirit and enjoyed riding his bicycle and there was no telling
where he would end up. Once he rode his bicycle from Baltimore City to Severn Maryland
near Arundel Mills.

Roddy was very spiritual and if he was not attending several Church's around the city he was
faithful "Beside Christian". His personal relationship with God was reflected in his daily walk,
talk and actions.

Roddy welcomed two sons that he loved unconditionally. Roddy had a village mentality
especially when it came to his two boys Cory and Justin. He believed wholeheartedly in
the following quote, "Not flesh of my flesh nor bone of my bone but still miraculously
my very own." Roddy believed also that it was "Better to Build Boys than to Mend Broken Men."

All of Roddy's moments were special, however, the birth of his grandchildren was the light of
his life.

On December 23,1998 Roddy welcomed his first grandchild, Quiandre Roderick into the
world. Ore Ore Drizzy was his pride and joy. Roddy was Ore's "Biggest Fan and Cheerleader"
he attended every game ... basketball, football and lacrosse. Ore once said" No matter
what and if no one else shows my Grandfather will be there ahead of time and before
everyone else. Roddy would ride his bike, take the train and if he had to rent an airplane he
would do whatever was necessary to be there for his Ore Ore Drizzy. They had a very special
bond!

On July 19,2002 Roddy welcomed his 2nd grandchild Quiliyah Neveah-Sean into the world.
Roddy called her his Baby Baby, Roddy often helped Quiliyah with her school assignments,
math, writing, and reading books before bedtime. He played dolls with her, took her on trips
to the mall, he taught her how to cook. His specialty was funny face pancakes with sugar
and cinnamon pancakes, jello with fruit cocktail to name a few. Quiliyah said her
Daddy was so easy to talk to".

Roddy welcomed Jha"Niyah on April 10,2008, his third grandchild. Roddy often called
Jha'Niyah "Baby Girl". They enjoyed having popcorn and tea parties, played together on
the playground he attended all of her school programs.

The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life, and make you see the sun
where you once saw clouds. The people that believe in you so much, you start to believe
in yourself too. The people that love you, simply for being you. The once in a lifetime kind of
people.

Roddy was a once in a lifetime kind of Man. He touched the lives of so many people. The
young men that he loved to mentor, the young women that he taught to cherish themselves.
He taught young men how to father that had never been fathered and young women to value and
respect themselves. He was so many things to so many people. To his parents, his grandmother,
god mother Grace, daughter, sons, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, grand kids, sister in
love La Faithier, daughter in love "Lady Lee" Ashley, son in love "Mr.Man" Glenton, uncles,
aunts, cousins, relatives and friends he was and will always be the most selfless person in
the world. He never complained, he never judged, he welcomed all, he was someone that we all
could count on a true friend and a confidant. Roddy lived his life in color, he had a unique
sense of style, he was the life of the party, he loved to dance, he enjoyed cooking at family
functions and he was the family Mr. Fix It. He started every day with ... "Good morning God,
Family and Friends ... I'm Blessed and I Know it!!!"

We hope and pray that he realized how Blessed we were to know him and we Thank God
for him every day.
