Rolland Gilmore Jr., son of the late Rolland and Elizabeth Gilmore, was born May 20, 1934, in Lumber Bridge, North Carolina and departed this life July 31, 2006, after a lenhty illness. He received his education in North Carolina public school systems. He was employed at Baltimore Stevedore Local 333 as a Longshoreman. In October of 2003, he received 50 years of devoted service and then retired ''reluctantly''. Rolland has so much love for shooting pool. He opened a pool hall in the early 60's and it remained open for 20 years. He was an annual participant in the Cadillac Parades and from this, he became affectionately known as ''Cadillac.'' He was committed to the well-being, protection and security of his family. His favorite article of clothing was his hats in all shapes and colors. Rolland will truly be missed by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Gilmore; three sons, in which two preceded him in death Rolland Gilmore III and Robert McNeil and Dwight Gilmore of Baltimore; four daughters , Elizabeth Hairston, Maxine Gilmore, Michelle Blake and Louisa Gray-Davis; one son-in-law, James Blake, Jr; fourteen grandchildren, in which one preceded him in death Dwight Nikey Gilmore and Taneesah, Renae, Shakisha, LeKyla, James III, Shante, Rolland IV, Shateria, Robert Jr., Deontez, Jasmine, Jessica and Kia; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, of whon two preceded him in death Georgia Mae Melvin and Isabelle Gilmore and two residing in Baltimore, Virginia Gilmore and Carrie Gilmore; one brother, James Robert Gilmore; one aunt, Vivian Smith from New York: one loving Goddaughter, Judith ''Charlie'' Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
