Obituary

Ronald McCauley Mickey, the son of the late Herbert Senior and Nancy Mae McCauley, was born on March 3, 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland. Ronald went to eternal rest into the arms of God on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 3:18p.m. Ronald was diagnosed at birth with Downs Syndrome and he also had a heart murmur. Ronald's doctors had only given him eighteen years to live, and they warned our mother that he would never walk, talk or lead a normal life, because of his medical condition. They wanted our mother to place him in a special facility for children that had special needs as Ronald. Ronald survived all obstacles, and he amazed those same doctors by living a normal life as one of God's chosen ones. God granted Ronald thirty more years of life her on earth. He granted Ronald the gift of writing his own name, dressing himself and even being able to sneak to 7-Eleven to purchase sodas and cookies to eat. Ronald received life skills training through BARC The Baltimore Association of Retarded Citizens, presently today known as ARC Association of Retarded Citizens. Ronald enjoyed going to his training center to complete assigned tasks. He was paid according to the number of items he had completed for that particular day. He would fold letters to go into envelopes or place assortment of coins in coin holders. Ronald made his own work schedule. Hw would sometimes work for ten minutes at a time and he would then take a one-hour break in the men's room. He would would wash his hands, face and he always made sure that his shirt was neatly tucked inside of his pants. Nothing could be out of place before he would leave the men's room. Ronald would get calls home, from his service provider at the day center because he refused to go back to work, due to him staying in the men's room for most of the day, fixing his clothing and making sure that his face and hands stayed clean. Ronald's paychecks he received from the day center, for the first five years of work, amounted to only eighty-seven cents to two dollars. As time passed and Ronald wasn't pressured to stay out of the men's room, his paychecks increased to sixty-four dollars to eighty-five dollars. Ronald was a proud and quiet young man. He loved to draw and color. He loved to sing to any tune on the radio, in his loud strong voice. Dancing was his best pastime and his collection of his own artwork was excellent. He loved to color faces of all colors with his skillful hands. Ronald's artwork still remains displayed in the family room on the mantle ledge. He loved preparing his own food, and he learned how to use the microwave to cook eggs and bacon. Ronald was also two steps ahead of us when it came to his well being in our hosuehold of bossy sisters. If you made Ronald angry, you would see a different side of him in action. After he had calmed down, Ronald would return to the person he had an argument with and he would say, ''I'm sorry, I am sorry''. He would then give you a big smile and hug. Ronald also enjoyed watching T.V. and the nightly news. He loved to watch the well-dressed news reporter and sportscasters in their suits, ties, and white shirts. Ronald would say to his sister CatKatherine, ''I am going to get me a shirt just like the news reporters or sportscaster''. Ronald Mickey you are still looking your very best on your homegoing celebration to be with our Lord Savior and Jesus Christ. Ronald leaves to cherish his memory: seven devoted and loved sisters, Dorothy Mae, Rovina, Mary Elease, Elaine, Katherine Regina, Renee Louise and Sharon; one brother, James Edward; two uncles, Abraham and Robert; five aunts, Luvenia, Marie, Vermell, Gardenia and Maxine; two brothers-in-law, Timothy K. Strane and Andrew Brown; a total of forty-five nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Senior and Nancy Mae McCauley; two brothers, Herbert Jr. and Gerald; one sister, Josephine Jeanette Moss.
