Obituary

On May 11, 1954 in Wilson, North Carolina Ronnie Glenn Atkinson Sr. was born to the late Samuel and Tennia Lucille Cobb Atkinson. He was the youngest boy of eleven children. Ronnie received his education in the North Carolina public school system and graduated from Elm City High School in 1972. He enlisted in the United states Army in 1975 where he served his country for over twenty years until he retired in 1995. He continued his education while in the miltary by completing two years of undergraduate course work. After a short retirement, Ronnie was employed with United States Postal for seven years. Ronnie was united in Holy Matreimony to Joanne King on March 20, 1978 in Killeen, Texas; and from that union three children were born, Darnisa, ronnie Jr., and DeAntre. He was also guardian to Robert Weatherspoon. Ronnie received Christ as His personal Savior in March 1999. Ronnie's true love were barbecuring on the back yard grill, watching weekend morning westerns and most importantly taking care of his loving grandchildren So'mone', Tre'Yonna and Isaiah. ronnie quietly entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, april 7, 2009 after a brief illness, He leaves to Cherish his memory his wife, Joanne Atkinson; loving daughter, Darnisca Atkinson; two loving sons, Ronnie Atkinson Jr. and Deantre Atkinson; three grandchildren, So'mone' Atkinson, TreYonna Atkinson and Isaiah Heyward; five devoted sisters, Edna Throne, Fannie Woodard, Lena McCray, Velma Edmondson, Sheila Edwards; and one brother, Samuel Clay Atkinson all of Maryland; two sisters-in-law, Glenolora ""Pete Hines and Angela King; three brothers-in-law, Johnny Throne, Connie Edmondson and Bobbie McCray; two aunts, Mary Lee Atkinson and Lauren Atkinson of North Carolina, and one aunt Helen Gilbert of Baltimore; one uncle AC Meeks of Baltimore; one goddaughter, Angela Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
