Caldwell
December 16, 1930 – January 8, 2020
On Thursday evening, January 8, 2020, Roosevelt Caldwell passed away peacefully after a short illness. Roe or Rand as his family and friends affectionately called him, was born December 16, 1930, to the late Lawrence Sr. and Willie Lee Caldwell in Baltimore, Maryland.
Roe received his education at Douglass High School, and afterhighschool, he joined the United States Air Force on June 3, 1951 where he served four years and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. After this, he graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelor ofScience Degree. He loved gardening and would spend many hours of his day tending to the many sectionsofhis one acreofland. His proficiency with horticulture earned him the rankofMaster Gardener from the UniversityofMaryland Cooperative Extension. Roe retired from Bethlehem Steel after 32 yearsoffaithful service in February 1993 as a Computer Operator.
On November 9, 1968, he married the loveof his life Lorraine Newton. During their time together, they enjoyed trekking across the great United States. These cross country outings only became more prevalent following their respective retirements. They were never ones to leavetheir house, especially lonesome, constantly holding various family get-togethers such as cookouts and pool parties.
Apart from loving his wife, he spent any free time dedicated to any numberoffun little hobbies. He tested his wits regularly by avidly watching Jeopardy. On any given episode, Roe could be counted on to get every answer correct with minimal difficulty. He enjoyed animals of all kinds, especially Doberman. Roe also loved swimming 40 laps across his pool on any given day, playing racquetball with his friends, and loved classical music and operas. His favorite sport was football, and he lovedto watch his home teamsofThe Baltimore Colts and The Baltimore Ravens.
He leaves to cherish: his loving wife,Lorraine and many individuals that had all the pleasures to love him in his lifetime, including one brother, Lawrence Caldwell, Jr., and two sisters-in-law Elizabeth Caldwell and Katherine Jackson; and hostofnieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
