Obituary

ROOSEVELT THOMAS NELSON, was born on July 2, 1940 in South Boston, Virginia, to the late Virginia Crawley and Henry Nelson. He departed this earth to be in the presence of the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2013. He was the oldest of five siblings, and they all called him "Brother," and those who knew him, called him "Mr. Bro." Roosevelt was preceded in death by his three sisters, Mary Nelson, Martha Williams and Betty Turner; and one brother, Charles Nelson. He received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. In 1962, he married Mary Louise Hough and God has blessed their union for fifty years. He was the father of six children, to whom he affectionately called "Flubadub," "Eggie," "Shorty," "Peewee," "Kitten" and "Pipsqueak," which was his personal nicknames for them. In 2002, Roosevelt retired from the Baltimore City Board of Education Grounds Division after thirty-six years of service. He was well liked by all that knew him. He was from the old school, an honorable man of principle, integrity and pride. A dedicated hard worker, dependable and reliable person at all times. He believed a person should be a man of their word, "say what you mean and mean what you say," if you knew him you know he lived by that. "Brother" was a sharp dresser, admired fine American made cars, enjoyed listening to good music, spending time with family and friends, but the thing he LOVED most of all was his wife Mary's cooking!. Roosevelt will be adored and cherish in memory: by his loving and devoted wife and life partner, Mrs. Mary L. Nelson; daughters, Deborah Buder (Aaron), Jeanette Nelson-Clash (Victor), Kathern Nelson and Cynthia Nelson; sons, Anthony 'Eggie" McAfee (Evette) and Roosevelt T. Nelson Jr. (Diane); three sisters-in-law, Vivian Kesler, Minnie Nelson and Vada McAfee; devoted friend, Wesly "Bunky" Johnson; godsons, Edward Randall Jones and Terry Williams; goddaughters, Amie Scroggins and Nakeya Hayes; twelve grandkids, fourteen great-grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, and family and friends.
