Obituary

Roosevelt Lee Smith, Sr. was the 3rd child

born to the late Murvin and Mary Smith on

June 10, 1939 in Baltimore, MD.

Roosevelt spent some of his younger years

in Moran, VA. As well as some early years of

education. He returned back to Baltimore and

worked at various corner stores at the age of

14. He was so happy to start working at Ross

Supermarket as a meat cutter on Gay Street.

He graduated from Dunbar High School in

1956. He then joined the Army where he

served 10 years including the Reserves.

Roosevelt worked in many supermarkets

around Baltimore until he retired. He said, "He

just could not sit around and do nothing." He

then started working in different clubs in East

Baltimore.

Roosevelt loved his family. He was such a

joyful man, always with a smile. He helped

many friends and many of their friends. He

loved dancing, soul music, joking, playing daily

lottery, poker machines, and games.

When Roosevelt could not make it He

would called his brother, Robert for personal

needs and Shelia (niece) and Rudy her husband

When he had problems with the hood he called

his nephew by a name he made up called Tone

Tone. Roosevelt often laughed and told his

sisters he felt like "Tony the Tiger."



He leaves to mourn one daughter,

Daphne Creigheton; two sons: Roosevelt

Smith, Jr and Timothy Smith all of Baltimore,

MD.; several grandchildren and great grand-

children. Two sisters: Odessa Outs, of Balti-

more, MD.; Mary Dean of Rice, VA; two

brothers: Robert Smith and William Smith of

Baltimore, MD.; Two Uncles, two Aunts,

many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
